Danika Merrick (Marisa Tomei) é uma bancária casada, mãe de três filhos e que sofre de grande estresse no seu trabalho, o que a leva a ter alucinações chocantes e estranhamente realistas. Ela resolve então largar o emprego para se dedicar apenas ao lar e aos filhos mas as alucinações passam a assombrá-la de forma ainda mais intensa, com imagens violentas que acabam se transformando em realidade. Danika então passa a questionar sua sanidade e busca a ajuda de uma psiquiatra (Regina Hall), que pode fazer com que ela descubra uma verdade surpreendente por trás de todos os acontecimentos.
