A princesa Odette e o príncipe Derek se conhecem desde criança e passam todos os verões juntos, com o intuito de que possam se apaixonar e casar quando crescidos, para que os dois reinos se juntem pela união. Porém, com o tempo os dois se afastam e o sonho dos pais parece cada vez mais distante. Até que em um verão, Derek e Odette se reaproximam, nutrindo uma paixão que os dois até então desconheciam. Na volta para casa, o rei e a princesa são surpreendidos no caminho e Odette é raptada pelo malvado feiticeiro Rothbart, que a transforma em um cisne. Agora, só o verdadeiro amor será capaz de quebrar tal encanto.
