Julho de 1998 - Depois que um grupo de delinquentes são encontrados mortos no local de encontro deles com as suas tripas arrancadas e retorcidas, Aozaki Touko recebe um pedido para encontrar o assasssino e pede ajuda a Shiki. O principal suspeito é Asagami Fujino; uma garota que era o brinquedo desses garotos até pouco tempo, a quem Shiki acreditar ser "uma da sua espécie". Enquanto isso, o amigo da escola de Kokutou Mikiya, Gakuto, pede a ele para encontrar um jovem desaparecido relacionado com o grupo de delinquentes, que aparentemente escapou do massacre e se escondeu, temendo por sua vida.
