Alguns dias antes de viajar para a Europa, o Dr. Paulo pede a um amigo íntimo para trazer Heloísa para Recife. Enquanto isso, seu filho boêmio e irresponsável Helvécio encontra-se com Heloísa, e sem saber que ela é sua irmã, tenta violá-la e ela o mata. Heloísa é presa e vai a julgamento sem ter provas para provar que ela só agiu em auto defesa de sua honra.
