Jim Wormold é um expatriado inglês que está vivendo na Havana pré-revolucionária com sua filha adolescente Milly. Ele é dono de uma loja de aspiradores de pó, mas não é muito bem sucedido, o que faz ele aceitar uma oferta de Hawthorne do Serviço Secreto Britânico para recrutar uma rede de agentes em Cuba. Wormold não tem a menor ideia de por onde começar, mas quando seu amigo Dr. Hasselbacher sugere que o melhor segredo é aquele que ninguém conhece, ele decide criar uma lista de agentes fictícios e começa a fornecer histórias inventadas, o que deixa felizes seus chefes em Londres. Ele logo é visto como o melhor agente do Hemisfério Ocidental, mas tudo começa a desmoronar quando a polícia local decodifica suas mensagens e começa a cercar a sua "rede" de espiões. Ele descobre também que é o alvo de um grupo que quer matá-lo. (e 12 - Estimado 12 Anos)
