Na época do carnaval, garotos da favela roubam gatos para vender porque os couros são usados na confecção de tamborins pelas escolas de samba. São mostradas várias situações em que os gatos são alimentados e capturados; um dos garotos pega um gato angorá de uma madame; brinca e divide a sua comida com ele. Ele hesita em vende-lo para o fabricante de tamborins, mas a fome se torna maior que o amor. Vende o gato e desce para a cidade com sua caixa de engraxate.
