Ryan Turner (Charlie Sheen), executivo de sucesso de Wall Street, tem um plano infalível para ficar milionário, mas as coisas não correm como o planejado e ele perde tudo o que tem. Totalmente arruinado e desmoralizado, vai morar com a sua namorada Cindy (Denise Richards), jornalista responsável pela coluna Pergunte a Cindy . Quando percebe que ele empobreceu, ela o deixa e sai à procura de perspectivas mais favoráveis. Desempregado, sem namorada e sem dinheiro, Ryan se apossa secretamente da coluna de Cindy, escrevendo por ela. Com a ajuda da editora-chefe de Cindy, Paige (Angie Harmon) com quem inicia um relacionamento, a coluna de Ryan se torna um sucesso nacional. O único problema agora é manter a sua identidade secreta enquanto a cidade inteira quer saber quem é Cindy.
