Baseado no livro best seller de Steve Martin, "Garota de Vitrine" (Shopgirl) é uma estória de amor engraçada e comovente nos tempos modernos. O filme mostra três vidas de pessoas em trajetórias diferentes em busca de uma coisa em comum. Mirabelle (Clair Danes) é uma garota simples que trabalha numa loja de luvas quase sem movimento na Saks Fifth Avenue em Beverly Hills. Uma artista que faz o possível para pagar o mínimo do cartão de crédito e os empréstimos para estudantes, ela vai se mantendo assim até que um dia se vê atraída por um cinquentão rico e bonito que se chama Ray Porter (Steve Martin). Ao mesmo tempo Mirabelle está sendo paquerada por Jeremy (Jason Schwartzman), um solteiro nem tão refinado ou bem sucedido quanto Ray. Quando o destino chega, pode não ser tudo como nos contos de fada, porque no final das contas... a vida é assim.
