Jim Hadley (Alan Ladd), madeireiro e, seu grupo de lenhadores estão procurando uma nova floresta para cortar e decidem por explorar uma floresta intocada perto da cidade de Deep Whells. Os moradores de Deep Whells liderados por Laura Riley (Jeanne Crain) são contra a derrubada da floresta, acreditando que a perda das árvores causaria deslizamentos de terra durante as chuvas pesadas.
