Em um local de construção, um trabalhador agonia, depois de um acidente, e conta ao filho sobre as virtudes do trabalho honesto, mas ele não é ouvido. Transformado em um vagabundo e tendo pessoas ruins como amigos, o jovem decide ser preso para encontrar um consolo contra o inverno. Quando ele finalmente decide seguir o conselho de seu pai e conseguir um emprego, ele cai nas garras de um policial, sob a falsa acusação de roubo.
