Aitaré namora Cora, uma moça da aldeia. Numa viagem de jangada em dia tempestuoso, ele salva o roco Coronel Felipe Rosa e sua filha, que ficam retidos nessa pequena aldeia de pescadores até a chegada de um barco, que os leva de volta à cidade de Recife. Por causa das intrigas, Cora e Aitaré se desentendem. Somente cinco anos mais tarde, tudo será esclarecido e eles se reconciliarão.
