Quando Allyson Simon se separa de seu marido, Jonathan, e se muda com Claire, sua filha de nove anos, para uma velha mansão no interior, descobre que seu corretor de imóveis não lhe contou sobre o assassinato brutal de uma família que aconteceu na casa há cinco anos. Quando Allyson e, depois, Jonathan descobrem horrorizados que uma boneca perversa feita na América do Sul foi deixada para trás (a mesma boneca da criança de dez anos que matou a própria família) e que essa boneca acaba possuindo Claire e a transformando em uma entidade assassina, nem Allyson nem Jonathan conseguem mais reconhecer a garotinha de outrora.
