Robert Burns supera sua educação como trabalhador agrícola para se tornar o poeta nacional da Escócia. O amor aparece na forma de Jean Armor, mas suas tentativas de garantir um relacionamento feliz são chamadas pelo pai de Jean, que desaprova queimaduras. Finalmente, Jean e Robbie são casados e Burns tenta se estabelecer com uma vida feliz casada, mas o sucesso de sua carreira literária traz muitas tentações e ele é incapaz de resistir à atenção das mulheres aristocráticas que se banham.
