Imigrante chinês em busca de uma vida melhor na América, embora não saiba exatamente onde ir. Chega em uma pequena cidade do Texas, onde é recebido de forma hostil. Após algumas dificuldades tentando arranjar emprego como cowboy, um homem chamado Spencer o contrata para trabalhar em seu rancho, mas Shangai Joe logo descobre não é gado que eles estão movendo, mas sim escravos do México. Ele não fica parado diante dessa injustiça e luta, arranjando problemas com os cowboys e o próprio Spencer, este então contrata assassinos cruéis para lhe trazer a cabeça de Joe.
