Kevin Manley (Skeet Ulrich) está desanimado com o seu trabalho na agência de viagens no subúrbio de Los Angeles, quando recebe uma carta dizendo que herdou terras no Alaska de um avô que nem conhece. Esta parece ser a resposta às suas preces por emoção e aventura. Kevin joga para o alto seu trabalho mundano e vai para o Alaska receber sua herança. Ao chegar, descobre que seu avô estipulou que ele precisa terminar uma famosa corrida de trenós puxados por cachorros, para se apossar das terras a que tem direito. Com a ajuda da bela Bonnie Livengood (Natasha Henstridge), Kevin se aventura para salvar o que é seu por direito das mão do corrupto advogado Clive Thorion (Leslie Nielsen).
