O curta-metragem “Manhã Cinzenta” rendeu ao diretor Olney São Paulo reconhecimento internacional e, no Brasil, prisão e tortura. O filme foi exibido em um avião sequestrado pelo Movimento Revolucionário 8 de Outubro (MR-8] em outubro de 1969. Por isso, a ditadura associou Olney à esquerda armada. Na história, dois estudantes são presos por liderar uma passeata no ano de 1968. Na prisão, são interrogados por um robô eletrônico, torturados e, por fim, fuzilados. O filme foi proibido no Brasil e sobreviveu graças às cópias que Olney enviou para diversos festivais internacionais. Depois de torturado durante vários dias, o diretor foi liberado pelos órgãos de segurança, mas, devido a sérios problemas de saúde, faleceu em 1978.
