Bickford é um jovem brilhante que vive isolado em um mundo intelectual e não se relaciona com ninguém. Até que seu diário, repleto de idéias geniais e teorias maravilhosas, desaparece e ele se vê obrigado a investigar toda a universidade para recuperá-lo. Circulando pelo campus o diário logo se tranforma em um fenômeno de popularidade. Os nerds chegam mesmo a venerar o livro por seu brilhantismo. Enquato isso Bickford se apaixona pela primeira vez, justamente pela pessoa que roubou se diário: a sexy e vaidosa Sarah. Passando por situações mais bizarras, os dois acabam se aproximando ainda mais conforma o tempo passa e o diário não é encontrado.
