Jim é um jovem que trabalha como ajudante na estalagem Admiral Bembo juntamente com seu fiel amigo roedor Gran (Rex, em inglês) um ratinho bastante inteligente. Em uma noite aparentemente normal de trabalho na estalagem, um estranho usando tapa-olho e com uma das pernas de pau chega para passar a noite. Porém, junto com ele também vem muita confusão para os jovens amigos. Um bando de assassinos vestidos com trajes negros invade a estalagem em busca de um objeto que está de posse do suspeito hóspede. O mapa da ilha do tesouro! Animal Treasure Island é um longa metragem que foi adaptado da obra original de Robert Louis Stevenson intitulada "Treasure Island", ou "A Ilha do Tesouro". O filme foi lançado pelo estúdio Toei Animation em 1971 em comemoração do seu 20° aniversário, uma vez que o Toei foi um dos grandes pioneiros no ramo da animação no Japão.
