Portugal 1997. Um acidente nuclear deixou o país sem energia e dividido em Zonas, algumas das quais estão interditadas por causa da contaminação. A crise econômica é grave e o desemprego quase total. Afonso, Vítor e Diniz, na véspera da transferência de Afonso para uma Zona onde iria trabalhar, aproveitam um automóvel, que foi abandonado depois de um assalto a um posto de gasolina, para fazerem uma festa de despedida. A viagem é acidentada. Perdem o automóvel e quando querem regressar os problemas surgem.
