Thiago é um homem de 40 anos que mora com a filha Clara na fazenda do velho Otaviano, um homem enigmático e devoto de forças ocultas. Quando ele resolve se mudar, a fim de proteger a pequena Clara e lhe dar uma condição melhor de vida, os dois vão para uma vila calma e muito religiosa, comandada pelo pastor Kurtz. Ele logo é obrigado a seguir as regras do local, que incluem frequentar as reuniões espirituais. Só que Thiago deseja viver em paz com sua consciência e não pretende seguir nenhuma regra divina, imposta pelos homens, e assim é visto com desgosto por Kurtz. A situação piora quando ele se apaixona por Miranda, que é irmã do pastor.
