Em seus dez anos como boxeador, Wepner teve o nariz quebrado oito vezes, 14 derrotas, dois nocautes e um total de 313 pontos. Mas suas lutas mais duras foram fora do ringue – vivendo uma vida de bebedeiras, drogas, mulheres, passando por altos e baixos ao extremo.
