Paris, 1943. As irmãs Laura (Natalie Portman) e Kate Barlow (Lily-Rose Depp) realizam uma série de apresentações onde se comunicam com os mortos. Fascinado com a possibilidade, o produtor francês André Korben (Emmanuel Salinger) solicita uma sessão particular. Decidido a encontrar um meio de filmar seres sobrenaturais, ele apresenta o cinema às irmãs. Enquanto Laura experimenta a possibilidade de se tornar atriz, Korben realiza seguidas gravações ao lado de Kate, que possui poderes mediúnicos.
