Na selva costariquenha, um grupo de voluntários trabalha em uma companhia de petróleo. No entanto, uma torre de perfuração é incendiada, ameaçando incinerar toda a região. A solução é mandar um grupo de homens para o local com um carregamento de explosivos para conter o fogo. Liderados por Jackie Scanlon (Roy Scheider), o grupo terá de transportar os explosivos por mais de 200 milhas, em território selvagem, utilizando dois caminhões velhos. Refilmagem do filme francês "Salário do Medo (1953)".
