À meia-noite da Noite de Walpurgis, um escrivão inglês chamado Renfield chega ao castelo do Conde Drácula, nos Montes Cárpatos. Depois de assinar documentos para assumir uma abadia em ruínas perto de Londres, Drácula enlouquece Renfield e o obriga a obedecê-lo. Renfield escolta o conde, transportado em um caixão, a bordo de um navio da morte rumo a Londres. Lá, Drácula é introduzido na sociedade de seu vizinho, o Dr. Seward, que administra um hospício. Drácula rapidamente faz sua primeira vítima, a amiga da família, Lucia Weston, e em seguida inicia seu ataque contra Eva Seward, filha do doutor. Um especialista em ocultismo que está de passagem, Van Helsing, reconhece a verdadeira identidade de Drácula, dando início a uma batalha pela alma e pelo corpo de Eva.
