Casado e pensando ser feliz, Lenny Babbitt é um homem comum, que possui desejos e sonhos como qualquer um, e que quer o de melhor em sua vida. Entretanto, o destino coloca algumas provas na vida de Lenny que testarão sua fé e sua força de vontade para se reencontrar. A vida deste homem começa a mudar quando, depois de perder o emprego, ele chega em casa certo dia e encontra sua esposa na cama com outra pessoa, uma mulher, e o deixa para trás para, sozinho, cuidar do filho deles, Isaac, um menino autista. Uma oportunidade surge quando o pai de Lenny, Jack, oferece ao filho um emprego em uma casa de penhores.
