Em uma cidade de Iowa praticamente toda branca, Flip sonha em ser uma estrela do hip-hop, andando com Snoop Doggy Dogg e Dr. Dre. Ele pratica na frente de um espelho e com seus dois amigos, James e Trevor. Ele fala gírias negras, ele se veste de preto. Ele também é um aspirante a traficante, vendendo farinha como cocaína. E enquanto ele fala sobre "manter a realidade", ele mal percebe a vida real ao seu redor: seu pai foi demitido, sua mãe usa Vale-alimentação, sua namorada está grávida, James pode ser psicótico, um de seus amigos (um dos poucos garotos negros) está se preparando para a faculdade e, em uma viagem a Chicago para tentar comprar drogas, os policiais atiram balas de verdade. O que será necessário para o Flip cair na real?
