Na Segunda Guerra Mundial, numa zona rural da França, Deming, um soldado violento e selvagem, e Losey com seu bom coração e as memórias de um grande amor, sucumbem aos horrores da guerra e encontram uma maneira de desertar do exército americano. Completamente perdidos, sob um rigoroso inverno, eles se abrigam num prédio abandonado. Pouco depois, são surpreendidos por um casal, que traz com eles as crianças do orfanato onde davam aulas. Treinadas para sobreviver a qualquer custo, as crianças vão se juntar aos quatro adultos para enfrentar uma última e aterrorizante batalha, quando o prédio é cercado por um gigantesco tanque de guerra e um pelotão do exército alemão.
