Durante sua busca na era feudal para recuperar os fragmentos da milagrosa joia Shikon, Inuyasha, Kagome Higurashi e seus amigos se tornam o alvo de Menoumaru Hyouga, um demônio despertado por um dos fragmentos de Shikon, agora em busca da espada de herança de Inuyasha, Tessaiga. Depois de um confronto entre os pais de Inuyasha e Menoumaru, a arma é o único meio de restaurar a Menoumaru sua legítima herança familiar. No entanto, ao emboscar Inuyasha, Menoumaru descobre que apenas o dono da Tessaiga pode empunhá-la. Determinado a atingir seu objetivo de qualquer maneira, ele sequestra Kagome para forçar Inuyasha a usar sua lâmina e liberar os poderes selados do clã Hyouga. Com a ajuda de seus companheiros confiáveis, Inuyasha e Kagome se opõem a Menoumaru, sem saber que suas intenções sinistras e potencial alarmante colocarão em perigo não apenas seu mundo, mas também seu futuro distante.
