Quando uma empresa americana faz uma perfuração para verificar se há petróleo nos vastos desertos da Mongólia, um ninho de vermes é despertado. As criaturas que vivem embaixo da terra começam a se reproduzir e se espalhar, exterminando quem atravessa o caminho. A única pessoa que pode acabar com elas é um aventureiro e caçador de tesouros que passou sua vida procurando uma lendária tumba, protegida pelos Vermes da Morte. Ele sabe que terá que, ao fazer tudo o que estiver ao seu alcance para exterminar essas criaturas, também pode colocar em risco o trabalho de toda a sua vida.
