O casal americano Mike Harper (Rod Taylor) e Janet Harper (Doris Day) se mudam para a Inglaterra por conta do trabalho de Mike em sua empresa de roupas e tecidos de lã. Apesar de Mike preferir viver em um apartamento no coração de Londres, Janet, que não é uma menina de cidade grande, aluga uma casa 30 milhas fora de Londres, em Kent. Por isso que Mike muitas vezes por conveniência dorme em um dos apartamentos da empresa em Londres. E aí Janet começa a achar que Mike arrumou uma amante, a secretária, e o Mike acha que Janet está apaixonada pelo decorador. E começa a confusão.
