Walter Hale (Elvis Presley) é gerente do "Chautauqua"escola onde se tem educação e entretenimento. Ao chegar a uma cidade para fazer apresentações por uma semana, Walter se vê em um problema: ele teria que dar o papel de protagonista da peça para a filha do prefeito, que não tem talento nenhum. E por outro lado, se descobre que um dos alunos da escola teria sido acusado de assassinato de um farmacêutico da cidade. Walter teria até o fim das apresentações para esclarecer todos esses problemas.
