Hisashi e Mai são um casal feliz em seus 20 anos que estão noivos e se casarão em breve. Mas três meses antes do casamento, Mai fica gravemente doente. Seu coração para momentaneamente, e ela cai em um coma profundo. Hisashi visita Mai no hospital todos os dias antes do trabalho. Sem ideia se ou quando ela acordará, os pais de Mai incentivam Hisashi a encontrar outra pessoa, mas ele se recusa a desistir e continua a rezar por sua recuperação. Como se as suas orações fossem respondidas, Mai começa a recuperar a consciência vários anos depois, e até mesmo pronunciar algumas palavras. Mas, tragicamente, sofreu dano cerebral e não tem memória de Hisashi.
