Este filme é uma sequência do filme O encontro perfeito, fala sobre a continuação da história da família Cominsky dez anos após um de seus integrantes ter tido um encontro especial. Sarah – filha de Nikki –, agora com 19 anos, prepara-se para estudar em uma universidade no Oeste do país, quando se encontra em sua própria encruzilhada espiritual. Para piorar a situação, sua mãe lhe revela que, há quase uma década, tinha sido a convidada de um jantar com o Todo-Poderoso. Então, não acreditando nas palavras de sua mãe, Sarah acha que Nikki não está em seu perfeito juízo. No entanto, durante a viagem da jovem rumo à universidade, ela conhece um estranho com o qual tem uma inesperada amizade e acaba dividindo seu descontentamento com a religião da qual faz parte. Como se sentisse perfeitamente toda a dor e o sofrimento vivido por Sarah, esse desconhecido fala profundamente à alma da moça. Será que, por dar ouvidos a Ele, ela está ficando louca ou realmente escutou a voz do Senhor?
