Sete meses depois que a Guerra de Um Ano acabou, os restantes da reforma do Principado de Zeon na República de Zeon continuam a lutar. Daryl tinha pilotado o robô Psycho Zaku no final da guerra no Setor Thunderbolt, onde a frota da Irmandade Moore foi aniquilada. Depois de perder o Psycho Zaku, Daryl desce à Terra e assume uma posição de inteligência para juntar informações sobre a Aliança dos Mares do Sul, um grupo militar dentro da Federação Terrestre. Io, que enfrentou Daryl, é selecionado para pilotar o robô protótipo Atlas Gundam e vai em direção à Terra.
