Baseado no romance de Leo Tolstoy, padre Sérgio, Noite Sun estrelas Julian Sands como Sergio, um nobre do século 18-Itália, que é esperado para se casar com uma duquesa, Nastassja Kinski. Ao saber que ela estava anteriormente amante do rei, Sergio vira as costas para a sociedade e torna-se um monge. Enquanto na ermida ele tenta resistir a todas as tentações sexuais antes dele e logo se torna conhecido como um milagreiro. Eventualmente, ele sucumbe a uma jovem sedutora e sabendo que ele não merece a adulação, deixa a ermida de viajar como um mendigo sem-teto.
