Ricardo e Regina, que fugiram de seus lares, empregam-se numa fazenda, perto de São Paulo. Orientado por Ricardo, ela se faz passar por homem para evitar o assédio masculino, sem impedir o interesse de Gilberto, filho do fazendeiro, que supõe ser Regina um homossexual. Ela se apaixona pelo rapaz que, por sua causa, abandona a noiva, Ana. Ele descobre a verdade e os dois iniciam uma relação amorosa, da qual resulta um filho. Quando percebe que Gilberto não a ama realmente, Regina rompe com ele e parte em companhia de Ricardo.
