Estamos no início do Século XX e o México é um imenso barril de pólvora, envolvido em turbulentas revoluções e guerrilhas. Pancho Villa, um verdadeiro herói revolucionário na cultura mexicana, lidera um exército particular com ideais de liberdade e igualdade, e luta com o apoio de seu sofrido povo contra um governo imperialista e tirano. Conta para isso com a ajuda de seu braço direito, Fierro (Charles Bronson), e de Lee Arnold (Robert Mitchum), um mercenário americano dono de um pequeno avião, uma inovadora invenção para a época, e a coloca a serviço da guerra para Panchi villa. Esta é a história e aventura desses personagens, num filme western com um trio de grandes atores de hollywood.
