Jerry (Jack Black) trabalha em um ferro-velho e decide sabotar a usina elétrica da cidade, pois acha que ela está derretendo seu cérebro. No entanto, seu plano dá errado e ele acaba sendo magnetizado. Assim, quando vai procurar ajuda na locadora de vídeo onde seu melhor amigo trabalha, Jerry destrói todos os filmes disponíveis. Para não perderem uma leal cliente da loja, uma senhora idosa com sinais de demência, os dois decidem recriar diversos dos filmes destruídos, como O Rei Leão, De Volta Para o Futuro, Os Caça-Fantasmas e RoboCop.
