Num imenso canavial que parece não ter fim, numa casa isolada, moram o casal Catita e Irmã Darlene. Catita esconde que participa do Maracatu. Darlene é fiel da igreja do Pastor Barachinha, um antigo mestre de maracatu convertido à religião evangélica, que se vê na missão de expulsar o demônio do Maracatu, evangelizando toda a cidade. Em meio ao canavial, um Pai de Santo pratica um ritual religioso com cinco caboclos de lança. Os caboclos ganham poderes, incorporam entidades e desaparecem. A cidade de Nazaré da Mata testemunha acontecimentos misteriosos.
