Lewis Hicks (Cuba Gooding Jr.) é um jornalista que escreve histórias sobre crimes cometidos. No entanto, ele é envolvido em uma teia de assassinatos ao entrar na casa de sua nova namorada e encontrá-la morta. Ele é apontado como um dos principais suspeitos e decide, por si mesmo, descobrir e parar o assassino. Lewis o encontra e após um conflito consegue pegar o jornal do assassino, que contém suas vítimas passadas, a descrição e identificação de suas próximas vítimas. Para salvar as pessoas que serão assassinadas, Lewis começa a perseguir o assassino, em uma luta contra o tempo.
