A pequenina índia Catiti anda pela floresta seguindo e imitando Tainá, hoje uma linda e corajosa adolescente. Elas inutilizam as armadilhas dos traficantes de espécimes raros e, durante suas aventuras, encontram Carlito, garoto da cidade à procura de seu cachorrinho perdido, que Catiti resgata e quer adotar como seu xerimbabo (bichinho de estimação), pois todas as crianças da aldeia têm um, com exceção de Catiti. Quando a quadrilha se apodera dos xerimbabos da aldeia, todas as crianças devem esquecer as diferenças de cultura e temperamento para socorrer os cativos e se unirem sob a liderança de Tainá.
