Sob ele, todos os dias, flui o Grande Rio, inundado de historias mal-contadas. Sua esposa, Carline, é dona de casa, e a monotonia faz parte de sua rotina doméstica insulada, assim como um certo receio diante do desconhecido. Ambos sonham com a chegada de um filho, que distraia o tédio e gere um novo prazer pela vida. O sonho vira pesadelo quando o seu destino se cruza com a obrigação de Silene, nativa da ilha.
