Num seringal na floresta amazônica, domina João Capataz, um negro forte e violento, que vive maritalmente com uma cadela. Entre os seringueiros, o mais infeliz é Inácio, cuja esposa fora espancada até morrer por três degenerados que tentavam violentar sua filha, que, traumatizada, perdeu a fala. O sonho de Inácio se resume em arranjar dinheiro para levar a filha a um médico na cidade. O destino ainda está contra Inácio e até sua filha lhe é arrebatada por João Capataz. Mas Deus acaba punindo Capataz e faz Inácio e sua filha ressurgirem para um mundo de esperança.
