Tristão dos Prazeres é um consultor sentimental televisivo cujo bordão é: "o ciúme é o cupim da felicidade conjugal". Em casa, Tristão e Valéria tem uma relação livre de ciúmes, ao contrário do casal Geni (irmã de Valéria) e Geraldo, que vive brigando por conta deste sentimento. A teoria de Tristão ameaça ruir quando ele intercepta o telefonema de um homem para sua mulher. Tristão passa a desconfiar da esposa. Intrigado, ele contrata o mordomo do casal, que disfarçado em vários personagens, investiga as saídas da patroa. O ciumento Tristão chega às raias da loucura até que Valéria revela o verdadeiro motivo de seu comportamento suspeito.
