O espadachim/massagista cego Zatoichi faz amizade com uma jovem que volta para casa com seu bebê. Quando gângsteres a confundem com Zatoichi e a matam, Zatoichi decide escoltar o bebê até seu pai. Ele conta com a ajuda relutante de um jovem batedor de carteiras e juntos viajam para encontrar o pai do bebê. Mas eles não contam com a reação do pai à sua chegada, nem com seus próprios sentimentos crescentes pela criança.
