Halvdan não é o tipo perfeito de Viking. Ele manca e é considerado pelas outras crianças um estranho solitário sem amigos - exceto pelo ferreiro da aldeia, Björn, que cuidou dele desde que o pai de Halvdan partiu em uma viagem para saquear. Do outro lado do poderoso rio, há uma vila inimiga que está em uma rixa com a tribo de Halvdan desde tempos remotos. Um dia, durante as excursões solitárias de Halvdan ao rio, ele encontra Meia, a filha do governante da vila inimiga. Começa então uma comovente e divertida aventura sobre como superar diferenças e amizades proibidas.
