Em Hyde Park, uma pequena cidade de Ohio, a vida segue sofrida para Mike McCluskie, o xerife local que acabou de ficar viúvo e tenta recomeçar. O povoado é formado basicamente por trabalhadores que estão construindo a estrada de ferro na região. Mas isso mudará radicalmente. Quando um grupo de vaqueiros chega à cidade vindos do Texas, eles rapidamente começam a tomar conta dos negócios e da política do local, dividindo a população e causando transtornos a quem resiste a eles. Com o apoio da dona do bordel e de um jovem moribundo, McCluskie terá que enfrentar os violentos invasores para evitar que um banho de sangue aconteça em Hyde Park. Baseado em uma história real.
