John é um cientista linguístico brilhante com uma esposa e uma filha amorosas, mas com uma enorme lacuna em sua vida. Oito anos atrás, ele apareceu do nada, sem lembranças, exceto um sonho recorrente. Ele é enviado para a proverbial toca do coelho depois de conhecer um homem que compartilha uma condição semelhante e descobrir que existem mais como ele, todos amnésicos com habilidades extraordinárias. Ele convence seu cunhado, o investigador particular Carl, a ajudá-lo a descobrir sua verdadeira identidade antes que seu passado possa se levantar para destruir ele e sua família.
