Movido pela ambição e busca do lucro fácil, Roberto casa-se com a patroa viúva, dona da fazenda em que trabalhava, com o intuito único de lhe facilitar a morte, e se apoderar não só de suas terras, mas de todo o seu império. Com a morte da viúva, Roberto casa-se com a amante Helena e faz com que Nico, filho legítimo da viúva fique fora da herança. Helena liquida Roberto para ficar com tudo sozinha, mas a polícia descobre tudo e prende Helena. Nico, o legítimo herdeiro, que estava mendigando na sarjeta, finalmente toma posse do que é seu.
