Sabrina Watson (Paula Patton) e Jason Taylor (Laz Alonso) se conheceram por acaso e acabaram se apaixonando. Só que ele pertence a uma família simples, enquanto ela é de um nível social mais elevado. Acontece que nem mesmo a resistência das respectivas mães, a senhora Watson (Angela Bassett) e a senhora Taylor (Loretta Devine) parece ser capaz de inibir esse relacionamento e o casamento vai reunir as duas famílias "bem" diferentes num local pra lá de privilegiado.
